About "Cool vs Cool"
I know I had been playing both the rhythm and the lead to this song since at least 1979. But I didn't have lyrics or a title for it until 1991 or 1992. Lynn and I had recorded a version of this song in 1992.
The origin of the lyrics and the title:
Lynn and I were living in Texas, at Canyon Lake. We went down to San Antonio, to the San Antonio River Walk. It's world-famous. It's a very fun way to spend an afternoon - artisans, vendors, restaurants on either side of the San Antonio River. People everywhere.
Perhaps you know that summer weather in Texas, especially in south central Texas, is normally hot and humid. This sort of weather adds to the memorable experience down there at the River Walk.
On that day, as we walked along the River Walk and as we entered and exited some of the shops there, I took notice that practically everybody, including us, was wearing sunglasses. I also noticed that on several occasions an attractive young lady - who was also wearing sunglasses - happened to show up at the same locations we went to.
Plus, I noticed how fashionably just about everybody was dressed, including that young lady. Well, including us too - dressed nicely recreationally complete with the requisite sunglasses!
She was cool. We were cool.
The whole thing was a picture - a picture of activity and vibrancy. In addition, it was not only a picture, it made for a fun story.
That's what this song is about.
